What You'll Learn

Course work in this program focuses on conversational fluency and pronunciation, natural speech and idioms, and American culture and customs. Students practice in class with American conversation partners. In addition to the core course work, electives may focus on listening, speaking, reading, vocabulary and idioms, grammar and composition. Weekly discussion groups with American university students and Recreational Program Instructors (RPIs) are incorporated into the curriculum. After class, students can participate in a variety of activities, discussion groups and sports. An overnight trip to famous Lake Tahoe or Yosemite is included in this program. This trip is usually the highlight of the program and gives participants the perfect opportunity to get to know each other, their teachers and the RPIs better, as well as to have a unique language and cultural experience.

Field Trips

During this program, optional trips are planned to scenic, cultural and historic places like San Francisco, Sacramento, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, the Napa Valley wine region, Las Vegas, San Diego and Los Angeles. The field trips (which vary each quarter) offer a unique opportunity to see California and experience American culture with fellow students and RPIs.
